#28: Occupational Therapy for Long COVID

with Amy Mooney MS OTR/L

"Occupational therapist Amy Mooney focuses her practice on people with fatiguing diseases like ME/CFS and Long COVID. She joins me to discuss how occupational therapy can be a valuable addition to your recovery program. Finding ways to engage in our lives, to do the things we want to do, is at the heart of occupational therapy.

Amy shares how she has modified her practice to empower people with fatigue, and suggests ways you can engage with an occupational therapist near you."

When Exercise Doesn't Help

Bateman Horne Center and the University of Utah Health ECHO teams join forces once again to provide a case-based learning series illuminating strategies for assessment and management of Long COVID (PASC), ME/CFS, and related comorbid conditions.

Occupational therapist, Amy Mooney, MS, OTR/L, and physical therapist, Clayton Powers, DPT address the importance of screening for PEM and redefine "exercise" in patients with PEM/PESE.

“This is brilliant and should be a MUST WATCH for GPs and anyone working in a Long COVID clinic.”

“Thank you for a detailed presentation, wish we had this just 5 years ago.”

“This is an excellent presentation. Great for everyone who has anyone dealing with these health challenges in their life.”

Amy Mooney with the Bateman Horne Center developed educational material for Rehab Professionals

Bateman Horne Center: Rehab Professionals

Occupational & Physical Therapy for Patients with PEM/PESE

These education videos aim to equip rehabilitation professionals on how to assess and safely manage patients with PEM/PESE. OT & PE for patients with PEM/PESE video series

This video series was developed for physical and occupational therapists to highlight the process of identifying post-exertional malaise/post-exertional symptom exacerbation (PEM/PESE) to provide insight into therapeutic approaches.

These short video segments will include topics intended to inform therapists who are not familiar with pacing, resting, and symptom management guidelines.

We hope this series will introduce principles of ME/CFS and Long COVID care that encourage healthcare professionals to continue advancing their knowledge about PEM/PESE.
